support fitness, wellness and healthy lifestyle
activities in the Grand Bahama community.
“We had 14 members
of the MERP community participate in this year’s triathlon and everyone
had a great time,” said Jon Holmsten, a licensed professional counselor
at MERP. “The weather was beautiful on the
island and the community was great in Freeport.”

Other MERP
competitors who participated included Alvin Vong, Kody Nilson, Anudeep
Pillarisetty, Jay Aro, Bao Le, Prestin Johnson, Nick Blackstone and Jon
Holmsten.
“Although the 25th
Conchman Triathlon was a competition, it also felt like a team effort to
encourage everyone to do their best”, said Holmsten. “It was a great
day of exercise and enthusiasm.”
MERP commends Bert
Bell, a coordinator for the triathlon, as well as all the organizers,
volunteers and participants who helped make the annual event a success.
“We’re
proud to have been a part of the triathlon and encourage everyone to
continue in the spirit of the event by identifying an activity or
exercise they enjoy that will promote
wellness and healthy living,” said Holmsten. “Hopefully, even more
people will come out to participate next year.”
MERP
is a rigorous 15-week program designed to provide preparatory basic
medical science course content for medical school education. Students
who successfully complete MERP are
offered entry to Ross University School of Medicine.
DMI recently
invested in an upgrade to the MERP facilities at Seahorse Plaza and
maintains a longstanding relationship on the Grand Bahama Island.
Many MERP students benefit from a wealth of experiences in Freeport as
they often connect to the community through churches, outreach
opportunities and by supporting the local economy.
